Migraines sometimes come without warning – at home, in the office, at the mall, or even on the road. While following a migraine treatment plan is the easiest way to cope up with the condition, there are lots of other things that you can do to keep your migraines away.

Here are 5 tips to follow, along with your EPIC treatment plan, to stop migraine headaches before they start.

1. Identify Your Triggers

Bright lights, loud music, changing weather, emotional stress, skipped meals, or dehydration – many things can lead to a migraine attack. So, try to identify your most common triggers, note them down in a diary, and try to avoid them as much as possible.

2. Cut the Caffeine

Caffeine is one of the most common culprits of migraine attacks. So, limit the amount of caffeine you consume in a day or cut it out completely, if the need arises. Apart from caffeine, other food items that can cause migraine attacks include:

  • Chocolate
  • Processed meat
  • Wine
  • Cheese
  • Artificial sweeteners
  • Dried fruits
  • Peanuts
  • Pizzas and cheese
  • Potato chips

Try to consume them occasionally and only in small amounts. But if they lead to a migraine attack, consider removing them from your diet.

3. Watch the Weather

Weather fluctuations also impact your migraine patterns. Hot, humid days can cause migraine attacks in a lot of people, so can the cold and rainy days. So, always check the weather report before stepping out.

4. Develop a Schedule

A consistent routine can help you avoid migraine attacks. It can also help you identify, manage, and avoid your triggers. So, develop consistent eating and sleeping habits. Maintain a regular exercise routine. Drink water every hour.

5. De-stress

Stress is a part of everyday life. But if you have migraine, it’s best to avoid it as much as possible. Cope with stress with yoga, meditation and through exercises. Spend time with people you love and do things you enjoy to calm yourself. You can also talk to your EPIC Provider to help you counter stress.

But while following these tips, don’t forget to stay on track with your migraine treatment plan. Take your prescribed medicines on time and visit your EPIC Health physician at regular intervals for expert care and support.
